WHAT IS A PLAYCENTRE?

Our Tasmanian playcentre provides pre-kinder care for 3-5 year olds. The sessions must be supervised by at least one member of staff who holds an approved childcare qualification. A playcentre must hold a Centre Based Child Care License issued by the Tasmanian Department of Education.

The staff and committee of Puddleduck Playcenter are strongly committed to the belief that play is vital step in a child's development. Daily play is how children learn. Children need freedom to explore and make their own decisions and choices within a safe environment. At Puddleduck we provide that environment, allowing children to choose their activities, within a programme structure that is flexible enough to allow for individual needs, but structured to provide reasonable limits to the children.

Why choose Puddleduck Playcentre for your child?

  • Our Centre is a not-for-profit organisation. This means that all income is spent on operating and improving the Centre's services and facilities.
  • The Children in our care are usually enrolled for an extended period, a school term or full year. This provides consistency within the group, allowing friendships to form, and providing a bridge between those children who go on to attend the same kindergarten.
  • We have two qualified carers who attend every session, providing consistency and familiarity for the children in their care.
  • Our Carers provide programs involving both indoor and outdoor activities. The programs change regularly, and are designed to support the development of the children individually and as a group.
  • Singing dancing and drama are an important part element in every session. Children are able to see how music is made as they sing and listen to our carer playing her guitar.
  • We encourage and promote appropriate social interaction, and positive and responsible behaviour through modelling and positive child management techniques.
  • Each 3 or 4-hour session follows an established routine including mealtimes, story, play time and music, all of which promote essential personal and social skills ready for school.
  • We provide a variety of age-appropriate learning experiences and activities in a facility which has been developed and resourced specifically for this age group.
  • Our pre-kinder programme provides children and their families with a smooth transition to school.
