Winter Uniform for Leaders

NOTES

NOTE:

I. Correct uniform requirements for Girls are contained in their Unit Programmes.

II. Some Uniform items in Australia vary from State to State as "Climatic Options" - you should check with your State office for full, correct Uniform for Leaders and Girls for your company.

All Trained Leaders are required to own and wear Uniform. Lady Chaplains and other leaders may choose to wear clothing that is similar in style and colour. When, during your training period, you may commence wearing uniform is a State decision and should be checked with your State Training Office.

Leaders MUST ALWAYS wear correct uniform for the occasion. Different uniform items may be allowable for different activities and events - e.g. slacks for Company wear, Breton hats during daylight hours or at a sports carnival. For any gathering in uniform ORDERS OF THE DAY should be determined and circulated so that Leaders know what is expected for themselves and their girls.

Some General Rules apply regarding the wearing of uniform:

* No jewellery beyond wedding/engagement etc rings, sleepers or studs as earrings should be worn

* Handbags, when used, should be plain, black shoulder style - not too big or "bulgy" .

* Hair bellow collar length is required to be tied back with plain bands or correctly coloured ribbons.

* Make up, if worn, should be modest and conventional.

* Where extra warmth is required, additional clothing should be worn UNDER than OVER uniform for official occasions.

Leaders should be proud to wear their uniforms in public - when travelling to and from special events on public transport, to church functions or community events when representing the Girls' Brigade, on Brigade outings when appropriate e.g. visiting nursing homes, street stalls and publicity drives, Local Council meetings etc.

A Leaders attitude to uniform is always mirrored exactly by her Company - there is no need to SAY how you feel about uniform - others will SEE your attitude 50 times over, whenever your company is assembled!
